The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania (MIE) is implementing the energy renovation of the elementary public school “Se bashku” in Gjirokastra. The choice of this building is in accordance with the Albanian Strategy of Education for the improvement of buildings in low-income areas.  The “Se bashku” School was originally built in 1971, and although it was partly renovated in 2000, still the building is in very bad condition presenting very low energy efficiency.

MIE is implementing the renovation in accordance to GATE specifications and is close to its completion. The objective of the renovation is to improve the working and living conditions for the students and the teachers and the energy efficiency of the building. It is estimated that when renovation would be finished a 46% reduction in the consumption of energy compared to the current situation would be achieved.

Besides the obvious benefits already mentioned, the implementation of this pilot project will serve as an example for the local community of Gjirokastra, demonstrating the benefits from building energy renovation and familiarize people with various energy saving applications. Alsο, will assist το the creation of job opportunities in the construction sector. Indicative pictures from the project are shown below.
